This past weekend I happened to run into my friend, Steve Alves, at the Winter’s Farmers Market here in Greenfield.  We were talking about each of our big projects, his documentary, Food for Change and my multimedia composition, Aberfan.

Several years ago, Steve had been introduced to Katherine Leiner, who happened to be writing a book at the time about the sustainable food movement in this country.  Just so happened one of her earlier books, Digging Out, tells a story of the deep and lasting resonance the Aberfan disaster of 1966 had in her own life.
